How are students assessed in the SAAI Research Program?

Answer:
Students are assessed through questions, notebooks, experiments, assignments, project evidence, documentation and defence using rubrics and mentor-reviewed feedback.

Assessment is based on demonstrated evidence rather than attendance alone. Students may complete diagnostic questions, lesson activities, notebooks, model-training assignments, dataset audits, experiment comparisons, written explanations, project milestones and a final defence. Rubrics can evaluate conceptual understanding, technical correctness, research design, evidence quality, interpretation, independence, communication and transfer of learning. AI-assisted evaluation may provide rapid formative feedback, while mentors review important or high-stakes evidence and can override automated judgments with a recorded reason. Learners are expected to revise weak work and submit improved evidence. The purpose of assessment is to identify what the learner can reliably do, which misconceptions remain and what the next appropriate learning task should be.
